Synopsis
Two immature girls, 10-year-old Satsuki and her iv-year-onetime sister Mei, move into a business firm in the country with their male parent to be closer to their hospitalized mother. Satsuki and Mei discover that the nearby forest is inhabited past magical creatures called Totoros (pronounced toe-toe-ro). I loved the movie but know there are now three versions on video in the U.s.
Although so many reviews have been written here for the movie, I am including one considering there are now 3 different video versions of this movie and all 3 are certainly worth watching.
Originally in the United States, 20th Century Play a trick on released the movie on video in the early on 90s. This is the version I first saw. And so, a few years later on, Studio Ghibli (who made this picture in Japan) signed a deal for exclusivity with Disney. This has resulted in a more widespread release of their pictures but has besides recently resulted in a new dubbed version of the movie. The Disney version has, mayhap, more realistic voices--as the children sound more like kids. However, I prefer the original voices--particularly the vocalisation for Mei. I call back it's the same lady who does the voice of Angelica on Rugrats.
Finally, there is the original Japanese version that is subtitled into English. I am a bit compulsive and actually have seen all three versions! I remember the subtitled is best because in that location are besides a few tiny scenes that are in neither dubbed versions (not plenty to change the story, simply still I prefer a complete film). Of the dubbed, my loyalty is to the Pull a fast one on version--it just sounds more mannerly and cute.
At present about the movie itself, the animation is almost the best you lot'll find anywhere--peculiarly the gorgeous backgrounds. They seem to yell out "QUALITY PRODUCTION" throughout. The story, though very simple, is very captivating and the emotional response the motion-picture show triggers is amazing. Anyone (except a total curmudgeon) will love this charming and elementary film. See the movie, equally it'south about as proficient an animated film as you tin can find--regardless of where information technology was made.

I am a huge Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki fan, and My Neighbor Totoro is no exception. In fact it is i of my favourites from them. There are so many wonderful things about My Neighbor Totoro. It is very simple in story and grapheme but it is all very beautiful, charming and touching. The animation is typical Ghibli, ethereal-looking and merely ravishing to watch, while the music is one of my favourite scores in a Ghibli flick. The story is simple, but I loved the simplicity, it had such a pleasant temper to it, and the characters are engaging with swell chemistry together. I accept very little to complain near the vocalisation acting either, everybody did a fine job. In conclusion, in my opinion this is an animated archetype. 10/10 Bethany Cox

Fun kid'south film from Studio Ghibli
I'm non the world's biggest blitheness fan, simply I always make a point of watching Studio Ghibli movies whenever they're on; something almost the creativity of such films appeals and reawakens the child in me. MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO is my latest scout from the studio, and while it'southward not my favourite, it does have plenty to recommend information technology.
First off, this is a kid'south film through and through, like the later PONYO (ane of my all-time favourites). Don't get in expecting another GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES, because this is all nigh magical babyhood experiences and a break from the existent world, a flake like THE SNOWMAN. Adult themes do intrude on the plot - the mother'southward affliction, for instance - merely for the virtually role this is a elementary, straightforward children's adventure film.
However, the film works due to the level of creativity nowadays in the story, and especially in the two creations thought upward for the movie: in that location's the troll-similar Totoro of the title, an intriguing and odd creature, and then there'south the crowd-pleasing and lovable Catbus, the highlight of the whole matter.
There'southward non a slap-up bargain of plot or incident, but there'south some fine scenes involving kids lost in the forest or flight through the air, and some nicely-judged character work, peculiarly in the class of the ultra-shy neighbour'due south kid.
